Dodd is a classic old style Democrat. At the AFL-CIO debates on MSNBC, he got the first question and hit it out of the park – mentioning the fate of the miners trapped in the coal mine collapse in Utah a way that acknowledged and cemented the relationship of Democrats with their key constituents – working men and women. It is no coincidence that Dodd received the first Union endorsement from the Fire Fighters Union. If things take a turn towards Giuliani, the Fire Fighters may be key players in the general election. In person and in the debates Dodd comes across as very comfortable in his own skin. He is a solid candidate, too solid to be taken seriously in the ever-shifting electronic jungle of the coming general election. Too bad, he’s a nice guy. But then, they always did tend to finish last.
